Living Streets Association | 2023 April
Living Streets Association ran another successful Easter Bunny visit on Easter Sunday. The Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny has become somewhat a tradition for neighbours of all ages to hang out together on the street to start their Easter Sunday. For the past few years, a new parent would either volunteer as tribute to be the Easter Bunny, or there would be nominations put forward on the street group chat. The Easter bunny’s dance moves get better every year, showcasing a different personality each time. Participating families hide the chocolate in their front yard, and the group of hunters move along the street to search for chocolate together. The younger-aged children play little games led by the older children while searching for the eggs, adding more fun to the hunting.
The Street Easter Egg Hunt is one of the easiest activities that can establish connections and bring joy to your neighbours on the street. Here is a step-by-step how-to!
How to: Street Easter Egg Hunt
- Chat with neighbours about the idea and decide on the best date and time for everyone
- Door knock to invite your neighbours on the street to this event
- Ask each participating household to hide a bag of Easter eggs/ lollies/ homegrown lemons etc in their front yard
- On the day, meet together with your Easter egg baskets and slowly move up the street, hunting at one front yard at a time.
Tips!
- We like to tell the children to act like different animals in each front yard, it’s adorable to see them pretending to be monkeys, wallabies, or chickens while hunting for eggs!
- Fun, happy music can set a great mood for everyone!
- Encourage children to help younger peers, and to share their lollies with others
- You may want to invite the Easter bunny to visit your street! (If you have a costume, parents can take turns to entertain the children each year).
Children who grow up with this tradition develop a consciousness of community and giving through little acts of kindness is naturally rooted in their hearts. Easter is an opportunity to allow community spirit to be reborn by sharing a little warmth in the neighbourhood.
