What does community mean to you?

To me, community is caring about people that you don’t really know, and then actually getting to know them! I think Living Streets encapsulates that really well by caring for and creating a better space for everyone, including our own members, but also neighbours that can’t be as actively involved and future neighbours that haven’t even moved in yet.

I like to volunteer at Living Streets because…

I joined initially because I was interested in built design and how it influences communities. I stayed because of the incredible people I met, and the clear passion everyone has for making their community a better place. Even though I’m not from Watson, everyone at Living Streets has been so welcoming, and I feel like part of the community!

Hi, my name is Mia, and I study environmental studies and computer science at the ANU. I was born in Japan and grew up in Brisbane, but now I call Canberra home! Outside of uni, I play the violin in a string quartet and play soccer and futsal. Somewhere down the line, I hope to be an urban planner or a school teacher!
