Living Streets Association | 2025 August

The Inner North Playground has finally opened! It’s so exciting to see how young people’s active care for their community and willingness to take action have helped create such a great local space. Living Streets Association attended the grand opening of the Inner North Playground on Saturday, the 9th of August, and it was a riot! So many neighbours of all different ages are already enjoying the community spaces. We were particularly happy to see younger kids playing on the play equipment, older kids on the sports courts, adults skateboarding and scootering, older people relaxing on the benches, and a family hosting the very first birthday party under the shade. It’s clear that the park is bringing joy to people of all ages!

We had a lovely time chatting with ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr and Minister for Health and Public Service Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA, who were interested to see the story of young people’s contributions to the park’s development through a photo album capturing the journey from 2017-2024. They shared lots of encouragement with all the young people giving back to their communities.

Seeing the park come to fruition after many years of campaigning and encouraging the community to share their voices and opinions about their local spaces has been incredibly reassuring that young people’s volunteer work can truly make a positive impact on the world around them. We look forward to growing up and growing old alongside the trees in the park space we worked hard to help create.
